Bernhard Antenna At Bredstedt 1945
A German Telefunken FuSAn 724/725 "Bernhard" (Be 09) navigation antenna at Bredstedt, Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) in August 1945. It was a framework device used as a radio aid to navigation, 40 m wide and 32 m high. It worked by revolving on its own base every thirty seconds, and was operated 24 hours a day. The function of the transmitter was to send out automatic signals giving the bearing of the main transmitter lobe as it revolved. Thus, any aircraft within range, and fitted with appropriate receiver, could obtain a bearing on any one "Bernhard" twice every minute. The signals were coded, but were printed on a teleprinter in the aircraft so that they could be read off directly. The site at Bredstedt had been used in 1940 for the FuG28a "Knickebein". – Australian armed forces, public domain – Wikimedia Commons
