Pedestrian bridge between German village Hirschfelde-Rosenthal, a district of Zittau, and the Polish town Trzciniec Dolny, a district of Bogatynia. Picture taken on the Polish bank. Bridge was primarily used as access to the former German railway station that is now located on the Polish side of the river Neisse. Bridge was closed down on June 22, 1945 after the expulsion of all German citizens. The construction became an international border bridge after the end of World War II when German territory was ceded to Poland. Shortly after, the wooden bottom planking was removed to make the bridge unpassable. Poland and Germany are now part of the Schengen area. The reasons for securing the state border have become obsolete. Enabling the bridge would be very easy as the construction is stable.
